CRT (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy)

What is CRT?

A CRT-D requires three specifically placed leads to synchronize the heart’s pumping action and provide defibrillation protection: the first lead is placed in upper right chamber to monitor the heart’s natural rhythm. Second Lead is placed in the lower right chamber to pace and provide shock if life threatening arrythmias are detected and the third lead is threaded through the coronary sinus to the outside wall of the lower-left chamber.  This lead allows the device to pace the left ventricle simultaneously with the right, correcting uncoordinated contractions. CRT-D performs two critical functions

Who Needs a CRT-D

Our specialists typically recommend a CRT-D for patients who:

  • Have been diagnosed with Heart Failure with reduced ejection fraction.
  • Show signs of Electrical Dyssynchrony(often seen as a Left Bundle Branch Block on an ECG).
  • Continue to experience symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue despite optimal medication.
  • Are at high risk for sudden cardiac death due to weakened heart muscle.

The Procedure: Precision at Every Step

CRT-D implantation is more complex than a standard pacemaker and requires a high level of expertise in Electrophysiology.

Lead Placement

Unlike a standard pacemaker, a third lead is precisely positioned in the Coronary Sinus to pace the left ventricle.

Minimal Recovery

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation. Most patients spend 1–2 nights in the hospital and notice an improvement in their breathing and energy levels within weeks.

Remote Monitoring

In 2025, our CRT-D devices come equipped with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing our doctors to monitor your heart’s performance and fluid status remotely via a smartphone app.

Benefits of CRT-D Therapy

Reduced Hospitalization

Significantly lowers the risk of being admitted for heart failure symptoms.

Improved Quality of Life

Patients often report a dramatic increase in their ability to walk, climb stairs, and exercise.

Increased Longevity

CRT-D is proven to reduce the risk of mortality in specific heart failure populations.
